From the Austin American-Statesman: Lt. Col. Sam Darden Chrisco USAF (Ret.) Lt. Col. Sam Darden Chrisco USAF (Ret), age 83, of Seguin, Texas, died March 7, 2002. Sam was born November 3, 1919, in Sullivan, Texas, to Sam and Ruth Chrisco. Following graduation from Seguin High School, he went on to graduate from Baylor University. He served as a pilot with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II flying over 60 combat missions and being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and multiple Air Medals. Upon returning from the South Pacific he married his third grade sweetheart, Harriet Schumann, of Seguin. He flew numerous missions in the Berlin Airlift. In 1969, he retired from the Air Force. Sam was active in local businesses as owner of the Capital Bumper Exchange and involved with the Seguin Coca Cola Company. He also spent a number of years with the Texas Youth Council presenting anti-drug programs in high schools across the state. Sam was an active member of the First Baptist Church, regularly attending the Zollie Steakley Sunday School Class, a member of Ben Hur Shrine and a 32nd Degree Mason. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriet; and three sons: Patrick, of Corpus Christi, Mike of Houston and Tim of Austin. Also surviving are his sisters, Betty Enlow and Jean Wotipkia; and five treasured granddaughters: Melissa, Michelle, Laura, Carly and Lacey. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, in Austin, on March 10, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Seguin, on Monday, March 11, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the South Austin Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund, 4101 James Casey, Suite 100, Austin TX 78745.
